I guess I always knew I had it in me, to take the chance and start really living the life i’d always imagined… but how many times do we think it and not actually do it? Well here I am now: in love, engaged, 10 months pregnant, amazing people surrounding us, living in our tiny cabins in a beautiful place with a man that is my best friend and partner in everything, with no white picket fence or expectations. We just live, enjoy the moments, the days, the sunrises, the sunsets and most importantly each other and the life that we are creating.
Sam and I met while I was living in one of the coolest places in NY, a little city called Long Beach. I was teaching business at a high school in Brookville, but besides private cheffing on the occasional weekend I was open to having another job to help me pay off my student loan and have enough to start travelling a bit more. I am very lucky to be so close to my brother, who is a part of a big rugby family from New Paltz. These New Paltz crazies are everywhere and one of them just so happened to be in Long Beach as well and worked at The Cabana. One night I went in to have dinner/an interview with him, the manager (Doug) and the owner (Bob) and left with not only a job, but a new sense of excitement that I had stumbled upon something special (it wasn’t just the margaritas talking either haha). I started helping out nights/weekends right after winter defrosted our small little beach town and by the end of school/summer time I was there more and more. Bob the owner just so happens to be a big time rugby guy as well, played, is a huge fan and is the President of the Rockaway Fishheads. Every August Bob would get a few guys from all over the world to come live in Long Beach and play rugby for Rockaway. A few days after my birthday in late August, two kiwi guys came walking through the door and my life would never, ever be the same.
